THE TRUTH ABOUT THE CAWU

The cawu secretly entered into merger discussions with the CAW but only if the CAW agreed not to hold elections.  The cawu executive held secret meetings in July 2009 to amend their constitution and eliminate the requirement to hold a National Convention.  More than 1,000 Screening Officers in Toronto petitioned the cawu, demanding a National Convention.  Screening Officers in YYZ filed a civil action in the Ontario Supreme Court of Justice against the executive members of the cawu in order to force the cawu to follow their constitution.  The Court of Justice forced the cawu to hold officer elections.  They use membership dues to wage their personal battle against democracy and their own members. No Democracy – No Accountability – No Honesty SHAMEFUL!

The cawu is currently in violation of their own constitution, as follows: o Membership meetings have not been held. o A National Convention has not been held. o Financial statements are withheld from the members. o Shop Stewards are appointed not elected. o They entered into a service agreement with an international union, contrary to the constitution and without informing or seeking the memberships’ approval. o They do not affiliate to the Ontario Federation of Labour or Canadian Labour Congress.
